HBO's The Last of Us adaptation is proving to be quite a hit, with the opening episode alone causing a massive uptick in video game sales through the magic of synergy, with the show drawing a record amount of eyeballs in the process.
This week was no different, with Variety revealing that the drama had set another benchmark, this time for the largest-ever growth in viewership between a premiere (4.7 million) and the second episode (5.7 million), marking an impressive 22% jump. You can check out our review of Episode 2 here.
As is now tradition, we also got a teaser of next week's episode, this time giving us an extended look at grizzled survivor Bill, played by Nick Offerman, who is perhaps best known for playing grizzled Parks Director Ron Swanson in the excellent comedy series Parks & Recreation.
Is the sky really the limit for The Last of Us in terms of mainstream breakthrough? What do you think of Bill, and the little we get to see of Frank? Prepare for the worst in the comments section below.

Ron Swanson is one of the greatest sitcom characters ever created. I love this actor.
Episode 3 is one all the critics have been raving about, saying it could be the best episode of TV this year.
@InvaderJim In January, no less.

Nick Offerman is one of the manliest men ever. I could absolutely believe that if the world came to an end, he would set up a fortress of solitude covered in traps disconnected from everyone else. Great choice for Bill.
Man those viewer numbers are crazy. Really looking forward to see how Nick is gonna portrait Bill. He does have the Bill-feel to him.
Looking at the trailer it doesn't resemble Joel being strung up just before he meets Bill, maybe they changed it or they didn't show it in the trailer.
going to wait until they are all released and binge em. looking good and i'm glad they are getting great reviews. if any game to tv adaptation deserves it, it's this one.
I've also got a lot of Nick Offerman love, however I would have really liked to see the part go to W. Earl Brown, who absolutely killed it in Deadwood, VA'd him in the game, and looks exactly like the character portrayed in-game.
I wasn't sure after the first episode, but the second episode completely won me over... The ending was kind of weird though, I'm curious if they are going to explain and expand on that.
I'm glad everyone that didn't play the game gets to experience this amazing story in the best possible way.
I was just excited until I found out they are rel asking it episode by episode, such a dumb 90's thing, probably have it ruined by all the simps, probably won't watch it for another 3 years, HBO are fkng dumbarses.
@Fight_Teza_Fight depends on your definition of "manly", but don't mistake Nick with Ron Swanson. From his interview - "Ron Swanson, my character from 'Parks and Rec,' was considered very masculine. I'm often accused of masculinity. And, you know, I was born looking like this and I sound like this. You know, I did not cultivate [this]. I don't go to the gym. I'm not chasing masculinity. And so it's always seemed a little strange to me as a mincing theater artist to be accused of being manly. I am pretty handy at splitting firewood or changing a tire, but so are the women in my family. And so I use it as an opportunity to encourage people to try and loosen their ideas about genderizing everything. I know ladies that are great woodworkers and I know men that make an amazing quiche and everything across every spectrum in between."
He's a good choice for Bill, although I'd rather see Bill himself, W. Earl Brown, who is a seasoned tv actor as well, but real life Nick would probably join Jackson community rather than being this paranoid loner.
I thought I’d seen Nick Offerman in something else but when I looked at his filmography, I didn’t recognise a lot of the movies/shows he’s been in (except maybe Fargo). I must be thinking of someone else who looks similar?
I liked him in Fargo though and it seems like really good casting. Can’t wait for the episode.
@HEVIHITR
HBO's weekly episode model has always been better for them, many of their shows including: Game of Thrones, Westworld, Boardwalk Empire, Euphoria, House of the Dragon, etc. have all remained in the public conscious because of it keeping people talking about them for months on end. Countless streaming shows by comparison have been hurt or even cancelled because everyone watches the whole thing at once and then immediately forget about it for a year or two until the next season drops so they then talk about it for maybe a couple days, rinse and repeat.
As a person who hasn't played in more than 5 years, can someone remind me about Bill's role? I've played TLOU: Part 1 fully through three times but can't for the life of me remember this guy. His name is familiar but I don't remember him playing a HUGE part in the game.
@SillyBoyJudas
The booby trapped town controlled by a single guy, Bill, the area you first encountered the bloaters, where Joel and Ellie got the truck, how do you not remember any of that?
@PegasusActual93 yea, it's not ringing a bell. Five years is a long time.
