So I gave in and bought it like I said I would. Looks as good as a modern Switch game.

Plays really well with duel analog controls.

@Ralizah Cheers for vid, I will check that out later. I've never played any of the Metroid Prime games, so this a win for me.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

I don't know why but the first Metroid Prime gave me severe motion sickness to the point I gave up the game. And I got it on launch day together with my GameCube, to say that I was very disappointed was an understatement. Those days the Nintendo of Europe practically gave the Cube away, its price fell fast. I guess it did not sell that well in Europe. I ended up buying the trilogy on the Wii U but I never tried the game again and to be fair after I got the Steam Deck my Switch also went in the closet and stayed there.

That said if a new Layton releases and it is a Switch exclusive, I will get it day one. I am a huge fan of the series and beaten all previous games multiple times.

The Game Boy is a great system, and I am a huge fan of it, I have more than 200 games for all its iterations but again I have a Steam Deck and a cheap GB flashcard that gets the job done and to be honest I see them abandoning it as they did with NES and SNES after a couple of months. Still cool to be able to play those games in the Switch though.

@belmont Prime gave me motion sickness as well during longer sessions. All games in the trilogy by the way, something about how Retro makes FPS's is off, but I don't know what!

Nausea aside, I could never really get into the game. It is well made, but I just wasn't having too much fun during it.

Weird. So, Tears of the Kingdom is officially a $69.99 game if bought on its own.

But it's also voucher-eligible. You know, you spend $100, and get two first-party games digitally.

Nintendo really pushing them vouchers!

Anyway, not as good as the September Direct, but I'm cautiously optimistic about the return of Level-5. If the new Fantasy Life and Professor Layton games are good, I'll be a very, very happy customer.

I'll be waiting for a $50 physical sale on Tears to the Kingdom, not interested in owning digital Switch games.

Yes I know I'll be waiting many years, I haven't even played BOTW yet and my Switch backlog is at 20+ games lol.

@KidBoruto Probably be waiting a while for TOTK to hit $50, BOTW seemed to stay full price for years.

I'm pretty happy to pay £60-£70 for TOTK if it reviews well, BOTW was brilliant. I still may not get it at launch though, depends what else I am playing at the time.

Nintendo Vouchers are the only way to buy first party games. 50 at launch that way

@belmont @Kidfried I got motion sickness just watching my brother play it, so much so that I had to leave the room while he was playing it. I'm not sure what it was about that game that caused it. Anyone getting motion sickness with the switch version?

My favorite thing to do is precisely nothing, to be perfectly idle. All of the problems in the world can be attributed to people doing things. If in doubt, do nothing :)

Ralizah

@Kidfried Yup. The cartridges/boxes are cute, but give me a way to shave off $10 - $20 at launch, and I'll take it every time.

Besides, maybe it's a sign of the times, but having to switch physical media to play games just feels... weird and archaic now. Like some totally unnecessary complication that belongs in the past.

@KidBoruto Even then, it was likely only briefly on sale, only to go back up to that price for the majority of the year every year. That's the biggest problem with Nintendo's pricing of their games on Switch. Unlike PlayStation and Xbox games that eventually go down in price permanently, 1st party Switch games never do permanently. So, if you are one that likes to wait for games to go on sale, you have to get lucky that you get it while it is briefly because it may not again for a year or even multiple years. It seems like Breath of the Wild might be sticking to around $40 at some places as it's been $41 on BestBuy.com for months now, but it's also a nearly 6 year old game.

In the end, it is what it is and you either pay it or don't play it, but things should be different with Nintendo's pricing. While they are greedy and all, it is still almost laughable that Sony took all of the crap they did for the $70 price tag when Nintendo has been worse for years.

Played through Mario Kart: Super Circuit online with friends yesterday. I'm constantly being amazed at the fact that we can play these older games online. I mean, GBA games didn't even have split-screen so the fact that Nintendo managed to incorporate the GBA multiplayer system where each player has their own screen is absolutely incredible.

As for the game itself, it was meh lol. Definitely better than Super Mario Kart because of the better variety of courses. But it still plays like SMK and it's not good. It was still fun giving it a go though and testing a GBA game online. I don't know if there were many GBA games that had multiplayer functionality, but I do hope there are some good ones that Nintendo will add to the service since I prefer to play multiplayer games with my own screen.

@LtSarge The fact that the coins and power-ups are flat textures on the ground in these really old Mario Kart games always bothered me. Something about the gameplay itself doesn't sit right with me either. And it's not just because the games are old, as I happen to really enjoy the older F-Zero games.

I've loved the series from Mario Kart DS on, though.

My nintendo switch online subscription is due to expire in a week, and I think I might finally cave and get the expansion pass. With the addition of GBA games it's finally worth it to me, and there are enough N64 games on the service I'm interested in trying out. I don't actually own any of the games with the DLC the expansion pass grants access to (I love mario kart but all my friends have it, which is the only time I'd ever play it anyway, so I don't see the point in buying it), but I think the retro game library is finally worth the huge increase in price. Hoping they'll add even more to it as well as time goes on!

@BranJ0 I signed up to the expansion pass from 'Day #1' - and honestly it was alright, but I'd be quite confident in saying that today the library is probably (finally!) worthy of the admission price.

Mario Party games and Goldeneye on N64, alongside the classics like OoT / Banjo / Majora are all awesome. And Starfox 64! (my personal favorite). The new GBA games are class also.

Supposedly as well the GBA library will continue to evolve, as will the N64 catalogue, so I think it is a justified purchase by today's standards

Ralizah

@BranJ0 I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the really good GBA stuff like Metroid, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, and so on.

Finally got my birthday present from my girlfriend 😂 pre-order of Zelda, which is really great as I don’t need to think about spending £70 on it now!! Only hope it is good, but as franchises go it’s as close to a sure thing as you get these days.
