Congrats @CaptD, hoping to make get the prologue out of the way this weekend, so you might well be hearing from me soon 😉

@CaptD Nicely done on Deathloop back there! Especially with a buggy trophy standing in your way. Hate it when that happens, and often just give up. Well done for sticking with it!

@colonelkilgore No rush as I don't need the Ssd space.
@RogerRoger Yeah it did feel like the definition of insanity as I did exactly the same each time, there were other bugs far worse.
The worst by far was the menu system getting stuck in a state where it wouldn't close so forcing me to restart, the problem is it only saves at the end of levels so I lost 30+ mins a couple of times. In the end I didn't use the menus mid level which made progress a bit tricky as I didn't read notes and then forget to read them later, this was probably the reason I had to refer to a guide on a couple of occasions. Amazing that the fault hasn't been fixed as I could reproduce it fairly easily and would seem fairly easy to fix but clearly it isn't.

@CaptD Yikes! I'm often astounded by major bugs that're left in popular AAA releases, but that sounds like a particularly egregious example. To lose half an hour of progress... that just ain't fair. Thanks for highlighting the issue; if it hasn't been fixed by now, I doubt it'll get fixed in the future, and Deathloop is on my "when it's a fiver in a sale someday" list. Will proceed with caution, cheers!

Platinum #125 - Doom Eternal - amazing game fair play! Took a fair while for me to get my head around all of the mechanics… pretty sure that they’ve added some since Doom 2016 (as well as some new and real tricky enemies that always seem to turn up at the worst possible time) but once I did, my respect for the game just grew and grew.

Struggled a fair old bit during my first playthrough on Hurt Me Plenty… so was a bit anxious about taking on the Running Up The High Score Trophy where you have to finish the game again, finishing with over 13 lives left… then I didn’t die the whole run and ended up with 53 lives so pretty satisfying all in all.

Great stuff guys.
Good to see you overcoming your latest hurdles.

@colonelkilgore Well done on that. Can't say that will be playing on that difficulty, probably on "I'm too young to die".

@sorteddan @CaptD cheers peeps.

@CaptD in fairness Hurt Me Plenty is basically normal, so I wasn't massively brave or anything. I just thought playing through on that during my first playthrough would aid my subsequent Extra Life mode playthrough as I would've had to of developed a more solid skillset. Now that I've done it though, I don't think there was anything to worry about and two easy playthroughs would've been fine.

@colonelkilgore Excellent work, Colonel, as your reputation suggests! Glad the game hit home for you, as I'd seen plenty of lukewarm reactions towards it at launch. A quarter of the way to your next centenary!

@RogerRoger thanks Rog. So I’ve actually gone back and watched a few reviews today since finishing it and from what I can tell (although it’s only been roughly 18 months since I played Doom 2016… the only thing I really remember about it was that I really enjoyed it and little else) a lot of the issues people had was that Eternal ‘made’ players play in a particular way (essentially plate-spinning your various resources as it always feels like you don’t have enough of anything). Apparently 2016 gave the player far more agency to play it their way ie. if you just wanna super-shotgun everything… you can make that happen.

As I mentioned, I do remember really enjoying 2016… and initially I found Eternal a bit too much to deal with. There’s just so many different things to consider in a very short amount of time… but once it clicks it’s something else… even for someone like me who doesn’t really play many of these types of games. Looking forward to something a bit more chilled now though as the past couple of weeks have felt really intense.

#154 Hot Wheeis Unleashed (PS5)
Decided to go back to this last week after a few months away from it, quite easy to pick up where I'd left off. A bit more grindy at the end than I would have wanted but nothing too strenous. Massively indebted to all the Youtubers who posted vids showing the shortcuts necessary to beat the time trials, I wouldn't have had a chance without them.

@sorteddan congrats on your latest and keeping up that momentum in 2023, impressive stuff.

@sorteddan Good show on Hotwheels. Nice fun game, the hotdog was the best car for me.

CaptD

RogerRoger

@colonelkilgore Yeah, Eternal sounds like a classic case. Quite a few follow-ups get condemned for making a "wrong" choice and sticking to it so resolutely, but I tend to opt for admiration whenever that happens, as there's a bravery in trying to get players to think differently.

Speaking of which, cheers for giving my Survive review a glance, especially when knackered!

@sorteddan Excellent work! Although sorry to hear that it became a bit of a grind. I wouldn't have expected that from a Hot Wheels game, for some reason. Not sure why.

@MaulTsir cheers buddy… and I’ll be really interested to hear your thoughts on Doom Eternal when you get around to it, what with you being a big fan of the genre. To someone like me who rarely plays them, I honestly can’t imagine there being one better… it feels like the pinnacle.

CaptD

@MaulTsir Yeah I think I only paid about £6 a year or so ago, prices seem to be going up with games. Felt a bit grubby buying it as I don't really wish to line Bethesda pockets. 🤔😜
Just shout if you want a hand with the MP trophies , they require 3 people so you will need another person. I will say that I'm not sure how long it will remain on my ssd as it is a large install.

@colonkilgore Yeah huge congrats to your latest platinum. Was a fun read! As usual wish you continued luck in your gaming adventures. Also as usual looking forward to read more from you man. As with regards to Doom its been a game that have been on my maybe list for quite some time (as have been the case with Deathloop which I also think looks intresting to say the least). I would probaly give the games a try if I was not so deep into third persons games at the moment.

@oliverp well apart from the fact that I appeared to have morphed from a colonel into the longest part of the large intestine (no worries, you’re not the only one 😉) I appreciate it buddy… and glad you enjoyed the read.

Funnily enough, like you I’m much more into games that feature a 3rd person perspective myself… but I do like to mix it up a bit to keep things fresh. If you do ever decide to give Doom/Doom Eternal a go, I’d just strongly recommend you start with the 2016 reboot. It’s debatable as to whether it’s better or not (I actually prefer Eternal but many do not) but the vast majority of gamers found it a bit easier and therefore a better place to start for the uninitiated.

@colonelkilgore Yeah agree that it can be nice to sometimes change perspective. Some of my fondest recent memories are actually from playing Call of Duty Black Ops and Cryisis hehe.
